Every colour has been developed, tested and perfected by Holts Dupli-Color to give you the quality of paint that the professionals use, at a fraction of the cost. To obtain a really professional finish, carefully follow this simple step-by step guide, it's as easy as painting by numbers! 1. Find your colour identification plate. You may find the colour name on your registration documents or on a metal plate attached to the bodywork (see diagram below). 2. Ensure the area to be treated is clean. Use Holts Dupli-Color Surface Cleaner (product code. L103) to remove all wax, grime and grease prior to painting. 3. Sand down the surface using 400 grade (or finer) wet and dry paper. 4. Mask the surrounding area. 5. Apply Holts Dupli-Color Primer and leave to dry for at least 2 hours. A primer should always be used, as it will help prevent rust, provide stronger adhesion for the top coat and help to give a smoother finish. 6. Apply colour coat as per instructions on the can. 7. To ensure a professional finish, allow paint to dry completely (approximately 7 days). For non-metallic finishes, use Dupli-Color Foaming Rubber Compound (product code. L114) to remove any overspray and to blend in the surface. For metallic finishes, lightly polish the area with a good quality Simoniz wax polish. Additional products which may help to ensure a really professional finish. Leveller (product code. L104) can be used to remove minor over spray up to 7 days after painting. Filler/Primer (product code. L113) can be used to build up a surface which has been repaired to give a smooth primed finish. Clear Lacquer (product code. L101)2 STAGE LACQUER Car manufacturers are increasingly using a two stage process, particularly wet metallic colours.
